Girls Varsity Soccer Score Berwick Academy 1 Marshwood High School 0
Berwick’s Girls Varsity Soccer Team began their season on Friday with a 1-0 win against Marshwood High School after only four days of preseason together. Despite Marshwood having a shot advantage over the Bulldogs, the Bulldogs held their own, and Berwick goalies Alexa Garcia (11th grade, Dover, NH) and Julia Brennan (9th grade, Exeter, NH) did not let a single shot past them. Berwick had a corner kick advantage of 4-2.
The match began with palpable energy and excitement from both teams, and the Bulldogs kept solid pressure on the Marshwood goalie throughout the game.
Marshwood had a chance to score early in the first half, but they shot wide across the net and missed.
With 6 minutes left in the first half, 9th grader Sophia DeSimone (Dover, NH) received a pass from 10th grader Maddie Laffaye (Sandown, NH), carried the ball toward the goal on a breakaway and shot and scored into the right back corner of the net.
The Bulldogs will travel to play a scrimmage against South Portland High School on Friday, Sept. 6. Go Bulldogs!
