BULLDOGS’ BUSY WEEK OPENS WITH LOSS AT HOME

The Berwick Academy boys varsity ice hockey team dropped a clash with Portsmouth Abbey on Tuesday afternoon.

Portsmouth Abbey notched three goals in the first period while Berwick failed to add anything to the scoreboard. It was a rough opening to the game as Berwick’s slow start put them in a quick hole.

The Bulldogs did show more life in the second period. The frame was headlined by senior Asa Forbes goal, assisted by Nick McSorley and sophomore Justin Massa.

Portsmouth would go on to add two more goals and secure a 5-1 win in Dover. Despite the loss, Berwick showed significant improvement in the second and third periods. They’ll look to continue to demonstrate this positive progression going forward.

Another indication of progress was seen in the penalty category. The Bulldogs surrendered just two penalty minutes (as opposed to Portsmouth’s six). In the games ahead, Berwick will look to stay out of the box while also capitalizing on power-play opportunities.

Tuesday’s loss is the first of four games that Berwick is scheduled to play this week. The remaining three will be played on the road.
