BULLDOGS DROP ROAD CLASH WITH KENTS HILL

Andersen Pickard
The Berwick Academy boys varsity hockey team traveled to Kents Hill on Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs dropped the contest by a score of 5-2.

A flat first period dug a hole for Berwick early on. Both teams survived penalty kills, but it was Kents Hill that scored three goals.

Motivated by the 3-0 deficit, Berwick came out stronger in the second period. The frame was highlighted by junior Ian Kula’s unassisted goal, which came on a breakaway effort and a beautiful shot from the baseline that snuck by the opposing goalie.

Kents Hill scored two more in the third period, but Berwick added one of its own. Freshman Ryan Dube pulled the Bulldogs within three off an assist from senior Liam Martin with 35 seconds left.

Despite allowing five goals, senior goaltender Jared Swisher did a good job thwarting various aggressive Kents Hill attacks.

The Bulldogs also played cleaner hockey during the loss. After accruing 14 penalties last Friday, they bounced back with just four trips to the box on Monday.

Berwick returns to action on the road against Tilton this coming Wednesday.
