Bulldogs Win at Home

The Berwick Bulldogs added another win to their record today in a game on their home turf against Kents Hill, finishing the game with a 2-0 score and a 15-0 shot advantage.

In the second minute the Bulldogs almost got on the board when Chili Dowd (Amesbury, MA) played Ginger Friedman (Hampton, NH) in on a breakaway, whose shot hit the post.  Thirteen minutes in, Sophia Whitney (Hampton, NH) passed from the left to Grace Libby (Standish, ME), who assertively put the ball into the net, giving the Bulldogs their first goal of the game,  In the 23rd minute the Bulldogs increased the lead when Reese Murphy (Stratham, NH) received a throw-in from Eliza Small and set up Chili Dowd (Amesbury, MA) for the Bulldogs second goal of the game.  The Bulldogs felt confident going into the halftime break up 2-0.

During the second half of the game, although no one scored, the Bulldogs had some quality chances.  Phoebe Clark (Hampton, NH) broke through on a breakaway and her shot was tipped over the bar by the Kents Hill keeper.  Ginger Friedman (Hampton, NH) broke through on another breakaway, but the Kents Hill keeper made a great save on her first shot and Ginger's shot off the rebound went just wide. Grace Libby (Standish, ME) had another strong moment when she shot from a distance and the goalie tipped it off the crossbar.   Sophia Whitney (Hampton, NH) created some quality chances for the Bulldogs from corner kicks and throws in the second half, but the Bulldogs couldn't capitalize.

Spirits were high and the energy was palpable as the Bulldogs brought the team to victory on this first day of fall.  Louise Roper (Kennebunkport, ME) and Cam Hamilton (South Berwick, ME) earned their fourth shutout of the season.  The Bulldogs improve to 3-0-1 on the season and will travel to Winsor for their first Eastern Independent League match on Friday 9/24.  Kents Hill falls to 0-3-0 on the season.
