English

Eighth Grade English provides students with continued opportunities to engage in reading, discussion, and analysis of quality literature, as well as to enhance and refine their written expression. Writing assignments help students progress in their ability to communicate with accuracy, organization, voice, and power.
Throughout this process, we also aim to build skills in the areas of vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. A critical component of the course is the development of processes and habits of successful readers and writers. Through daily workshop sessions, individual and group conferences, goal-setting and reflection exercises, and a focus on growth over time, students are provided opportunities and structures to build skills of time management, self-reflection, curiosity, creativity, and positive risk-taking.
