Board of Trustees president Barbara O’Connor and search committee chair Nicole Outsen are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Scott Erickson as Berwick Academy’s 55th Head of School, effective July 1, 2025. Following an extensive national search that attracted an impressive group of highly qualified candidates, Dr. Erickson was selected for his exceptional leadership, commitment to academic excellence, and dedication to student-centered education.
With over 25 years of experience in independent school education, Dr. Erickson has served in a variety of key leadership roles. He is currently Interim Head of School at Indian Mountain School (CT), and he was previously the Head of School at Phillips Brooks School (CA) from 2011-2024. Dr. Erickson served as Middle School Director at National Cathedral School (DC) from 2007-2011, and he began his career in education at St. Paul’s School (NH). His collaborative leadership style and strategic vision make him the ideal person to lead Berwick Academy into the future.
Dr. Erickson was drawn to Berwick Academy’s mission, its tradition of academic excellence, and the deep sense of connection within its community. As Head of School, he looks forward to building on these strong foundations while enhancing academic offerings, enriching the student experience, and guiding the school’s continued growth and innovation.

"Berwick’s commitment to rigorous academic programs, character development, and community aligns perfectly with my educational philosophy. I look forward to working collaboratively to build upon the school’s strong traditions and advance its future vision."
Dr. Erickson, a life-long learner, holds a B.A., summa cum laude, from North Park University, a Master of Divinity with high honors from North Park Theological Seminary, a Doctorate from Uppsala University in Sweden, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship from Harvard University. His academic and professional background reflects a dedication to learning and educational leadership.
“Throughout the search process, it became clear that Dr. Erickson possesses the qualities we were seeking in our next leader—strategic vision, deep educational expertise, and a strong ability to connect with people,” O’Connor shared. “His leadership philosophy aligns with Berwick Academy’s values, and we are confident that he will have a transformative impact on our school. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Seacoast.”
Dr. Erickson is a relational leader who thrives on building trust, strengthening partnerships, and making thoughtful, decisive choices to benefit the school community. He finds joy in engaging with all community members—from students to trustees to faculty/staff and alumni—to create a dynamic and inclusive school environment.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Erickson enjoys reading non-fiction, listening to classical music, exercising, and exploring family genealogy. He and his husband, Ryan, will move to campus this summer.
