Fresh off a two-game winning streak, the Berwick Academy varsity ice hockey team took on Brewster Academy on Monday evening.
Junior Flynn Martin started in net. He allowed two goals but also had some impressive saves on challenging opportunities, such as an aggressive fast break from Brewster in the first period.
Halfway through the second period, sophomore Dereck Namlick relieved Martin in net. He surrendered three goals but also made some key saves, especially as Brewster remained aggressive into the third period.
Senior Liam Martin was responsible for Berwick’s lone goal at the contest. Assisted by sophomore Justin Massa and senior Nick McSorley, Martin’s goal pulled Berwick within one goal at the time.
Although they lost by four goals, Berwick showed promise on various instances throughout the game. If this team plays a bit more consistent, they should find success over their next stretch of games, especially with two home games on tap this week.
The Bulldogs will hit the ice for practice on Tuesday, then put their skills to the test in front of a passionate student section against Hebron on Wednesday, January 26, at 4:00 p.m.
