Steady diet of defense and goaltending propels Berwick

The Bulldogs traveled to Moses Brown, scoring one in the first, one in the second, and two in the third.

PROVIDENCE, RI –Berwick earned their first win of the young season with a full team effort against Moses Brown. Cole Hernon (Hampton, NH) got the Bulldogs on the board in the first with a fluke goal. Hernon flipped the puck some 30 feet into the air on a dump in that the Moses Brown goalie misplayed and let in.

Two minutes into the second, Richie “backhand” Rosato (Concord, NH) scored his second of the season on –you guessed it –another backhand! Ryan Gaulin (Kingston, NH) made the initial breakout pass to Jackson Sidford (Newburyport, MA) who sent a pass cross-ice to Rosato. Rosato took the defenseman wide and snuck one near-side, just beneath the bar.

Greg Stohrer (Dover, NH) put a dagger into Moses Brown six minutes into the third when he pick-pocketed a defender and scored a short-handed breakaway goal. Moments later, it was Stohrer again who dove on the powerplay to tap the puck to Sidford who fed Chris Dowd (Danville, NH) at the point. Dowd took two strides before sending a wrister past the goalie and just underneath the bar. Gaughan did not see many shots the rest of the way as Berwick held on for the sound victory.

Cole Shelgren (Dover, NH) earned the game puck for his steadfast play in the defensive zone that contributed to the shutout. Shelgren has been a consistent presence for this young Berwick team from day one and they work to find their identity.
