Humanities

The sixth grade humanities program is designed to integrate North American Indigenous history with literature and writing through the lens of narrative and storytelling. This journey fosters opportunities for students to investigate geography and the progression of land over time and engage with the question of the “origin story” of the land that we now call the United States.
Students will learn the importance of land acknowledgement and the people who inhabited this land for generations before them. Literature chosen for the humanities program allows students to explore the many perspectives of Indigenous people who remain on this land. Writing and discussion are venues for student expression, allowing students to hypothesize, analyze, organize, synthesize, and evaluate gathered information.
