LS Outdoor Classroom Exploration
Does your preschool or elementary-aged child love exploring the outdoors?
Join us for our Outdoor Classroom Exploration on Sunday, October 20 at 9:00 a.m. Led by members of our Lower School faculty, our Outdoor Classroom Exploration is a chance for children and their parents/guardians to spend time exploring Berwick Academy’s Forest Classroom.
What should attendees expect?
- Each family in attendance will receive a copy of the book Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert.
- Begin the morning’s exploration in our Lower School for a nature-based story time with our teachers.
- Gear up! Bring hiking or rain boots and clothing for the weather. Attendees can use our sturdy ‘rain overalls’ - we have plenty for every child in attendance!
- Walk across campus to our Forest Classroom - check out our campus garden and collect ‘nature items’ along the way (we’ll provide materials to help with this!)
- Engage in a unique outdoor activity, enjoy free play and exploration of our Berwick Forest (think mud kitchen, rope swings, wooden blocks, hammocks, and nets to catch frogs!)
- Finish the morning with a Story Walk in the Berwick Forest followed by free play and snack time in the Lower School Outdoor Exploration Space (our totally revamped playground area!)
- Learn more about the importance of outdoor learning as a component of elementary education (and beyond), and how we intentionally weave nature, sustainability, our community garden, and outdoor experiences into our Pre-K through Grade 4 experiences.
