Lem Randall is a seasoned hockey coach with a diverse and accomplished playing background. Originally from Manitoba, he spent four years playing Jr. A hockey for the OCN Blizzard in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), where he earned Rookie of the Year, All-Scholastic, Community Service, and the "Human Wrecking Ball" awards. His collegiate career included two years at NCAA Division I University of Maine, followed by two years at Manhattanville College, where he played NCAA Division III hockey.
With 13 years of coaching experience, Coach Randall has led teams at various levels. His journey began as an assistant coach at Fox Lane High School in New York before becoming the head coach at Iona Prep, also in New York. He further developed his coaching craft as head coach at Northwood School and Brewster Academy before joining Berwick Academy, where he spent two years as an assistant coach and is now entering his fourth year as head coach.
One of Coach Randall's favorite aspects of coaching is witnessing the rapid development of his players at this critical stage in their athletic journey. He loves being on the ice daily, helping them hone their skills and witnessing their joy and passion for the game.
Coach Randall's athletic role models include Olympic Gold Medalist Donovan Bailey, whose 1996 triumph in the 100 meters sparked his passion for sprinting, and Joel Jackson, the Edmonton Oilers' strength coach, whose determination and hard work left a lasting impact on Randall’s approach to coaching and life.
In 2023, Coach Randall celebrated a major career milestone, guiding his team to a thrilling Holt Conference Championship victory. He recalls this as one of his favorite coaching moments, sharing the triumph with a remarkable group of young men.
He believes Berwick Academy is the perfect place for young athletes to grow—not just on the ice, but as individuals. The school provides a balanced academic schedule, fosters school spirit, and nurtures a strong sense of community, all while allowing students to pursue their athletic passions.
For aspiring high school athletes, Coach Randall’s advice is simple yet profound: "Be patient. Hockey development is a marathon. Find a place where you can make an impact, and continue to grow your confidence."
When preparing for a big game, Coach Randall can be found listening to his favorite pre-game song, ‘The Sun is Shining,’ by Axwell Ingrosso.
