Coach Morgan Irons brings a wealth of collegiate-level playing and coaching experience to Berwick Academy’s Field Hockey program. A standout player at the Division I level, Morgan competed for four years at UMass Lowell, where she was named team captain in 2020. Her leadership and drive on the field led her to transition into coaching, spending two years at Western New England University, a Division III program, where she developed a passion for mentoring young athletes.

Morgan loves the atmosphere at Berwick Academy, describing it as “a great place to be.” She values the opportunity to coach athletes who are eager to improve and sees it as a chance to help them not only become better field hockey players but also to grow as confident young women. Inspired by her own head coach at UMass Lowell, who shaped her into the person and leader she is today, Morgan focuses on teaching her players to be strong teammates who can support one another both on and off the field.

“It’s important to me that they first are great teammates,” she shares. “Being able to work in groups and support the people around them is a must. Being a positive outlet for their team or even coaches and seeing how much it can turn around someone’s day is invaluable.”

Her coaching philosophy centers on holistic development—instilling in her players the importance of hard work, perseverance, and character. She encourages her athletes to continue improving on their own time by putting in extra effort, whether through stick skills, extra workouts, or watching game footage to build their field hockey IQ.

One of her proudest moments as a coach was securing her first win as head coach—a special milestone that affirmed her commitment to helping her athletes reach their highest potential. Coach Irons’ favorite pre-game song, “Pump It Up,” captures her enthusiasm and competitive spirit.

Through her dedication and experience, Coach Irons is not only helping her players become better athletes but also building a program where young women can grow into strong, resilient individuals.

Coach Britney Carr serves as Berwick Academy’s Assistant Athletic Director and is a key contributor to the Girls Field Hockey and Girls Ice Hockey programs as an assistant coach. With an impressive background as a three-sport athlete and extensive coaching experience, Coach Carr brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to Berwick’s athletic community.

A standout at Cushing Academy, Coach Carr was a four-year starter in Varsity Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, and Softball. She continued her athletic career at Bowdoin College, where she earned a starting role for four years in Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, and Softball, achieving All-NESCAC honors in both Field Hockey and Ice Hockey.

Coach Carr’s coaching journey has been equally impactful. She led the Varsity Field Hockey programs at Cushing Academy and Milton Academy, developing teams that thrived under her leadership. She also served as the Varsity Ice Hockey Head Coach at St. Mark’s School and the Assistant Coach at Cushing and Milton, working closely with athletes to build competitive and cohesive teams across multiple sports.

She loves coaching field hockey because it’s a sport many athletes try later in their careers. “I love watching them grow to love the game during high school,” she shares. “Many athletes I’ve coached came onto the team thinking they wanted to play college sports for another sport and ended up choosing field hockey for their collegiate path.” Coach Carr’s approach to coaching goes beyond athletic development; she emphasizes teaching athletes the values of being good teammates, strong leaders, and resilient individuals who can handle adversity and time management.

One of her proudest coaching memories was when her team secured a monumental win against a rival school—a team they had not beaten in over 15 years. “It was the best game of the season, and it was so fun to watch the team really come together and get a program-changing win,” she recalls.

A mentor to many young athletes, Coach Carr draws inspiration from her own high school advisor and field hockey coach, who played a pivotal role in guiding her through the college recruiting process. She strives to offer her athletes the same level of support and encouragement, helping them navigate their own athletic journeys.

Through her dedication, expertise, and commitment to the growth of each athlete, Coach Carr is helping shape the next generation of confident, well-rounded student-athletes at Berwick Academy.
