The Berwick Bulldogs took on the Pingree Highlanders on Wed., Oct. 16 on the Berwick turf, coming away with a 0-5 loss. Considering the strength of the Pingree team, and considering Pingree had 16 shots on goal, Berwick goalkeeper Alexa Garcia '26 (Dover, NH) kept the score  low relatively-speaking.

After the first several minutes of the game consisting of the Pingree players passing the ball around, Berwick's Liv Pate '27 (Exeter, NH) disrupted Pingree's sequence by getting a foot on the ball and putting Berwick in the game.

With 11 minutes left in the first half, Garcia made a great punching save off a shot from inside the penalty box. With 7 minutes to go in that half, Pingree scored off a penalty kick due to a handball by a Berwick player.
Then, 5 minutes later, Garcia made another excellent diving save off a corner kick to help The Bulldogs get to half time 1-0 instead of 2-0.

The second half of the game was filled with many great saves by Garcia, and in one case, 10 minutes into the half, defender Juliette Lohnes '25 (Berwick, ME) helped save a shot by placing herself right in the goal.
A few minutes later, a Pingree player dribbled the ball past a few Bulldogs and scored their second goal, followed by another Pingree goal 10 minutes later.

With 20 minutes left on the clock, Garcia punched the ball up and over the goal off a strong shot from Pingree, but then Pingree finished with two more goals in the last 8 min. of the game.

The Bulldogs should hold their heads high, however, as they battled a team that beats most teams. They kept the first half almost scoreless because of their steady and composed defensive play.

The Bulldogs are 6-5-2 on the season and will host Montrose School on Friday, Oct.18 and Proctor Academy on Wed., Oct. 23. Go Bulldogs!
