Megan Mallory
Pre-Kindergarten Assistant
I grew up in Portsmouth, NH and attended the University of New Hampshire where I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies and a minor in Education. I am currently studying for a Master’s Degree in Educational Studies.
I have ten years of teaching experience in various preschool and elementary classrooms. Before coming to Berwick, I worked as a Pre-K teaching assistant at the Child Study and Development center at UNH and was an intern in a Kindergarten classroom at Eliot Elementary school. I am excited to be a part of Berwick Academy’s creative and caring community. I love nature and incorporating the natural environment into my classroom.
Why do you love teaching Pre-kindergarten?
I love teaching Pre-Kindergarten because of the children’s energy and curiosity. They are constantly exploring their environment and asking questions. I am lucky to learn alongside them because they are always teaching me new things. I love working with nature and hands-on activities.
How do you define great teaching?
Great teaching happens when the teachers learn with the children and ask them just as many questions as the children ask them. Teachers should collaborate with other educators and take on professional development opportunities that challenge current teaching beliefs. A great teacher is caring and observant, but flexible enough to change with the flow of the day!
Describe your classroom in five words?
Fun, Collaborative, Natural, Creative, Caring
What do you like best about the Lower School?
I love the opportunity to collaborate with other grades and teachers. Community meetings on Friday’s brings the whole school together to share ideas and work together.
