Social-Emotional Learning

A commitment to kindness, honesty, and readiness to learn.
Our commitment to social-emotional learning differentiates our Lower School, and is a major component of our wellness program. Supporting students in understanding their relationships is at the heart of the program. Through a purposeful approach to developing the whole child, we ensure that our youngest students are ready to learn through being safe, kind, and honest. SEL objectives are achieved through a commitment to community building, whether our elementary-level students are engaging in community service or demonstrating empathy towards others. Taking advantage of teachable moments and weaving SEL into everyday classroom and program experiences are equally important. We focus on SEL because we know that it promotes individual growth, nurtures compassionate citizens, and develops a trusting, caring classroom community where students are comfortable taking appropriate risks in their thinking and in their actions.
